Sun Guozhi (Tianjin, China) independently drove a mass-produced battery-powered electric car, departing from Ordos City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China, on 15 July 2025, and completing his journey in Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone, Fujian Province, China, on 21 May 2026. He traveled through all 333 prefecture-level administrative divisions in mainland China, covering a total duration of 311 days, with 491 charging sessions at public charging stations, and a total driving distance of 107,635.49 kilometers. Verified by World Record Certification, Sun Guozhi successfully broke the world record for the “Longest Journey by a Battery-Powered Electric Car in a Single Country (Individual)”.

On 15 July 2025, Sun Guozhi set out from Ordos City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, driving a mass-produced pure electric vehicle on a long-distance journey. He completed the journey on 21 May 2026 in Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone, Fujian Province. The entire challenge lasted 311 days, covering a total driving distance of 107,635.49 kilometers.

During the journey, he traveled through all 333 prefecture-level administrative divisions in mainland China and completed the entire drive through 491 charging sessions at public charging stations. As a long-distance challenge completed by an individual driver, the journey covered a vast geographical area over an extended period, establishing a comprehensive record of cross-regional travel by a pure electric vehicle.

The route covered many representative geographical regions across China. Sun Guozhi traveled through the four geographical extremes and the two altitude extremes, including Sangmula Daban at an altitude of 5,566 meters and Ayding Lake at 154 meters below sea level.

The journey also passed through China’s four major uninhabited areas, including a winter crossing of the Qiangtang Uninhabited Area via National Highway G216. It also covered the entire watersheds of the Yellow River and Yangtze River, as well as regions associated with the Three Mountains and Five Great Mountains and the Five Great Lakes and Four Seas. In addition, the journey passed through more than 150 AAAAA-rated tourist attractions, 36 major expressway routes, and three national highway border routes.

From high-altitude mountainous areas to low-lying regions, from expressways to national highway border routes and uninhabited areas, this long-distance drive covered a wide variety of geographical and transportation environments across China.

The sustained, high-intensity driving over such a long distance posed practical challenges to the vehicle’s components. During the entire journey, eight tires were worn out and two wheel rims fractured.

Over the course of the 311-day journey, Sun Guozhi captured more than 10,000 pieces of visual material, completed more than 200 map research and review entries concerning charging stations and other facilities in remote areas, and continuously documented his experiences along the route. From a grassroots perspective, the journey provided practical verification of the quality of charging and road infrastructure in mainland China, while also demonstrating the reliable long-distance performance of pure electric vehicles.

The purposes of the journey were to explore China’s magnificent landscapes, verify its charging infrastructure, and contribute to the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. The entire journey was completed by Sun Guozhi alone at his own expense and as a public-interest endeavor, without a support team, sponsorship, or livestreaming.
