Marcelo Stancanelli, from Argentina, on January 10, 2026, became the first male swimmer to complete a double crossing of the Beagle Channel’s Mackinlay Passage, swimming from Punta Mackinlay (Argentina) to Cabo Peña (Chile) and back, in the Beagle Channel, Chile. Wearing a wetsuit, he covered a total distance of 3,250 meters in a time of 1 hour, 8 minutes, and 59 seconds.
Verified by the WRCA, this achievement has been confirmed as the “First Double Crossing of the Beagle Channel’s Mackinlay Passage by a Single Male Swimmer”.
