In Grainau, Bavaria, Germany, a cable car was opened on Germany's highest mountain, Zugspitze.

The cable car was awarded 3 World Record Certification Agency (WRCA) records: the world’s highest steelwork pylon for aerial tramways at 127 metres, the world’s longest unsupported span, measuring 3,213 metres and the world’s greatest overall height difference of 1,945 metres over one section.

The cable car can bring 580 people up the mountain in one hour.

Zugspitze is Germany's highest peak with altitude of 2962 metres, it belongs to the Alps and lies on the Austria-Germany border.

Because of its steepness, hard terrain and clouds covering the peak, no one dared to climb a mountain for a long time. There was even a myth saying that Zugspitze does not welcome people to climb it and anybody who dares to do so will never come back.

The first recorded ascent of the Zugspitze was achieved on 27th August 1820 by Lieutenant Josef Naus as a part of survey exercise by the Royal Bavarian Topographic Bureau for the Atlas of Bavaria.  The mysterious veil of Zugspitze has been unveiled then. The spectacular view of Zugspitze is loved dearly by German people and they are proud to have it on their land.
